Begonia fimbristipula subsp. siamensis is a perennial monoecious acaulescent herb that is primarily found in the northern and north-eastern regions of Thailand. It belongs to the section "Begonia fimbristipula."
Habitat[edit]
This subspecies thrives in evergreen forests at high elevations, typically between 1300 to 1900 meters above sea level. It can be found on both limestone and sandstone outcrops.

Begonia fimbristipula subsp. siamensis is known to occur in several provinces in northern and north-eastern Thailand.
Characteristics[edit]
This subspecies grows as a compact herb, reaching heights of 10–25 cm. It possesses a tuber that can be either globose or sub-elongate, measuring 0.7–2.0 cm in length. The leaves are broadly ovate, with variations in symmetry and coloration on both surfaces. The stipules are ovate-triangular and ciliate. Inflorescences are bisexual and cymose, branching 1–3 times.

The subspecific epithet "siamensis" refers to the nativity of this taxon to "Siam," the exonym used for Thailand before 1949.

Begonia fimbristipula subsp. siamensis exhibits phenotypic variation among individuals of the same population, especially in leaf size and abaxial leaf surface color. This variability resembles reports from occurrences of B. fimbristipula subsp. fimbristipula in southern China. Phenotypic plasticity may result from adaptation to the harsh environments these plants inhabit.
