Classification and Distribution
Begonia dicressine, a species in the section Platycentrum, is distributed in Kachin Province, northern Myanmar, in the understory of evergreen and semi-deciduous forests.
Synonym
Begonia putaoensis (2020) appears to be a Synonym Begonia dicressine (2019). Source
Habitat
It is found in the shaded understory of evergreen subtropical rainforest at about 550 - 900 m elevation in northeast Putao.
Characteristics
This species is characterized by petioles with long soft white hairs, plain dark green leaves with irregularly crenate margins, and glabrous inflorescences. It differs from B. rockii by having sparsely pubescent adaxially leaves and glabrous capsules.
Flower Details
Begonia dicressine has male flowers with four white perianth segments and female flowers with 5–6 white perianth segments. The ovary is glabrous with two basal lateral small wings and one erect large wing.
Etymology
The species epithet "dicressine" is an anagram of "iridescens," referring to the iridescent leaves of the species.
