Classification and Distribution

Begonia murina Craib is a monoecious rhizomatous lithophytic herb found in Laos (Bolikhamxay, Khammouan) and Thailand.

Habitat

It is typically found on wet rocks with mosses near streams in dry evergreen forests and shaded cliffs of limestone karst.

Distribution

This species is distributed in Laos and Thailand.

Characteristics

- Height: Up to 15 cm tall. - Rhizome: Small globose tuber, smooth, light red to reddish-brown, 3–5 mm in diameter. - Leaves: Asymmetric, ovate to lanceolate, 5–6 × 8–9 cm, apex acute, base cordate, margin dentate, covered with sparse short hairs. - Flowers: Monoecious with staminate and pistillate flowers. Staminate flowers have 4 white tepals, while pistillate flowers have 2 or 3 white tepals.
