Characteristics

Staminate flowers have four tepals, with the outer two being orbicular or ovate and greenish-yellow. Carpellate flowers also have four tepals, with the outer two being widely depressed ovate and greenish-yellow. The ovary is trigonous-ellipsoid and red, with three unequal wings.

The specific epithet "subcoriacea" refers to the subleathery nature of the leaves.
