B. tanala

Plant erect, a little succulent, entirely hairless; underground tuberous apparatus 0.5-2 cm wide and tall; stems erect, grelle, very ramose, up to 15-20 cm in height, internodes approx. 4 cm, the shorter superiors. Leaves couplet, very short petiole, 2-4 mm long; membranous lamina, pinnatinerve, lanceolate, slightly asymmetrical, 2-3 X 0.6-1 cm, retracted towards apex from lower third and then attenuated and acute at top, wedge and abruptly contracted at base; edges finely dente; mucrone teeth; median vein finely projecting above, 4-8 pairs of secondary veins, thin, oblique. Membranous, lanceolate, acuminate at the apex, cordate at the base, 3-4 mm long. Axillary inflorescence, 1-2 flowers; peduncle 1-2 cm long, grele; small bracts 1.5 mm long; long pedicel 5 mm long. MALE flowers has 4 white tepals, equal, 3.5-5 X 2-2.5 mm. Etaminea 8-15, with nets 1 mm wide in column at the base, free part of the net inserted at different levels of the upper part of the column (androcee dejete); yellow anthers, obtuse at the base and at the top, 1 mm long. Flowers FEMALE has 5 tepals white-pink, oblong, 3-4 x 1.5 mm. Ovate fusiform 0.5 cm, triaile; styles 3, free, sod at the base, bifid at the top; stigma in crescent contracts. Capsule erect, elliptic, 13-15 X 8-10 mm, including wings; subegal wings, 2-4 mm wide, wedge and confluent at the base more rounded and also confluent at the apex; midrib distinctly prominent on both sides, veins lateralea imperceptiblea; pedicel 10-15 mm long, grele. - PL 27, p. 7.
