B. ‘Perle de Lorraine’

The Garden, v. 61, (1902) NEW FIBROUS- ROOTED BEGONIAS. The subjects of our illustrations are two good new forms raised by Messrs. Lemoine. Perle Lorraine is a hybrid of B. polyantha and B. Daedalea, the latter a winter flowering kind, with handsome foliage. The plant has a height of some 18 inches, and is about as much in width, with finger-thick, fleshy stems branching from all the axils. The bright green leaves are spotted and clouded with black on the upper side, and are of a lighter green, spotted with red, underneath. The flowers are two-petalled and carried in lax panicles of from thirty to forty blooms; they are white, a little rosy to the center, and last for nearly forty days. The blooming season begins in January and continues to the end of April.
