Plant acaule, subglobular subterranean tubercle, 5-12 mm thick, somewhat rhizomatous. Basal leaves most often 2-3, pale pink petiole, 3-8 (-17) cm long with short, flexible hairs; slender, tender or semi-succulent blade with a waxy feel on the fresh, 7-palmatinerve, suborbicuJaire, 4-7 cm in diameter, equilateral or slightly asymmetrical markedly cord at the base very slightly crenel-dente margins, pale green, glabrous and only a little hairy at the base of the upper surface, or ± hairs of soft hairs, generally short, but sometimes long and wavy, lighter green and ± lava of vinous red on the inferior face, glabrescent, or bearing some supple hairs; bi- or trifuric veins of darker color than the blade, glabrous or very finely pubescent and indented above, very prominent and denser pubescence below. Stipules in scales, triangular, acute, 4-5 mm, pubescent. Inflorescences solitary or 2-3, pauciflorous (up to 20 flowers) bisexual, with pedunculate 10-12 cm long, finely pubescent and pedicel 10-15 mm long; bracts oblong, deciduous, tapered and acute at the top, 5 x. 2.5-3 mm. MALE flowers with 2 tepals white or pale pink, suborbicular, cords at base, 6-7 x 6-8 mm glabrous. Stamens 9-18 free, fasciculates, with long threads of 1 mm; oblong antheres, 1 mm long, orange yellow. FEMALE flowers with pedicel 6-7 mm; 4 tepals oblong, a little uneven, 7 X 5 mm. Ovary oblong, 10 x 8 mm, triaile, glabrescent wing or hairs of sparse and fine hairs, the widest of 4.5 mm, the smallest of 2 mm; styles 3, free and bifurcated at the top; stigma in lyre, twist at the end. Capsule slightly leaning, sub-round, 12 x 10 mm, glabrous, thin; wings finely reticulated, the largest wide 6-7 mm obtuse. - Pl 11, p. 41.
