B. 'Thick Velvet'

Hybridized by Tao Deng from Guangxi Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Guangxi, China. Applied for on March 31, 2023 and approved on March 25, 2024.

This rhizomatous cultivar first bloomed in 2023 by planned hybridization in 2021. It’s ca. 34 cm tall and ca. 55 cm wide when mature. The maroon stipules are ca. 25 × 17 mm and the deep maroon petiole is ca. 25 cm long with dense long white hairs. The broadly ovate or suborbicular peltate leaf blade is ca. 23–28 × 16–21 cm with a subentire or repand and ciliate margin, and an acuminate apex. The upper leaf surface is brownish- (immature) to dark green with silver spots and blotches along the main veins and light maroon hairs. The lower leaf surface is green with maroon veins and light maroon hairs. The pink 4-tepaled male and 3-tepaled female flowers are few on a ca. 28 cm long maroon peduncle in winter.
