B. ‘Colorful Night’

Hybridized by Yi-Xun Yu, Ya-Zhi Liu, and Juan-xu Liu from College of Horticulture, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, PR China. Applied for on August 12, 2024 and approved on September 29, 2024.

This compact rex cultivar first bloomed in 2023 by planned hybridization in 2022. It's up to ca. 11 cm tall and ca. 29.5 cm wide when mature.

The deep maroon stipules are ca. 16 × 6 mm and the deep maroon petiole is ca. 10.8 cm long with white hairs. The ovate leaf blade is ca. 15.7 × 10.8 cm with a cordate base that sometimes has slightly overlapped lobes, a serrate and ciliate margin, and an acuminate apex. The upper leaf surface is deep olive green with silver or rose markings and spots, and a very narrow dark maroon margin.

The lower leaf surface is deep maroon with white hairy main veins. The pale pink 4-tepaled male and 5-tepaled female flowers are abundantly produced on a ca. 10.5 cm long maroon peduncle in summer months.
