B. 'Souvenir de Dr. Weddell'

Same cross as B. Abel Carriere by Svahn, propagator for Bruant. Of this cross, Souvenir de Dr. Weddell was #3.

Plant dwarfish, bushy, with small foliage, but of a coloring extremely remarkable; the inferior (under) face is of a dark blood-red, the superior (upper) face is strewed and pointed with spots and white dots, all of which is covered with a very marked rose color; the young leaves leaves of a lively rose; altogether of a very attractive coloring.

The varieties of this new group of begonias do not yet show great differences from one another; they all have matte silvery-white leaves with green veins, but otherwise completely the habit of Begonia discolor (grandis), and should presumably be just as suitable as the parent species for planting in shady or partially shady flower beds. Without a doubt, this new group of begonias can be significantly improved by crossbreeding in two directions: firstly, with regard to leaf markings, and secondly, with regard to flowers.
