B. 'Eldorado'

The leaves of this charming variety are a beautiful, glossy white. In the center of the leaf is a light green, palmate pattern, while the edge appears very finely painted with the same color. The surface is smooth, but the margin is covered with reddish hairs about an inch wide. The underside shows a fine, net-like, reddish veining on a matte green. The very numerous leaves overlap almost like roof tiles, giving the whole plant a more curved and rounded shape, which makes it particularly suitable both as a solitary plant and with others.

Liebig presented 18 hybrids with B. rex as the mother at the Spring 1860 meeting of The Society for Promotion of Horticulture in Berlin. B. 'Eldorado' was one of them.

This is widely cited as the male parent of B. Tingley Mallet.
