B. nigritarum ‘Mindanao Cotton Candy’

This creeping rhizomatous cultivar is a selection of Begonia nigritarum. It was cultivated originally in Davao, Mindanao, the Philippines and has spread across the country mistaken as a Begonia Rex-culto-rum cultivar. It is ca. 25-32 cm tall and ca. 28-30 cm wide when mature. The maroon stipules with citrine base are ca. 20 × 12 mm and the maroon petiole is ca. 21 cm long with sparse hairs. The glossy and irregular broadly ovate leat blade is ca. 17 × 15 cm with a cordate base that has slightly overlapped lobes, a slightly shallowly lobed margin, and an acute apex. The upper leaf surface is dark slate blue with pink coloration between veins, the colder the area of pink coloration is brighter. The lower leaf surface is maroon. The 4-tepaled male flower and S-tepaled female flower are pinkish-white with pink underneath the tepals. Flowers are abundant on a ca. 25-29cm long light maroon peduncle from March to December.
