B. gironellae ‘Rain Drops’

This creeping rhizomatous cultivar is a selection of variable Begonia gironellae which similarly found and propagated by Mr. Rain Tormo in a small garden around the outskirts of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, the Philippines. It is ca. 17 cm tall and ca. 29 cm wide when mature. The ivory stipules are ca. 14 x 4 mm and the chartreuse petiole is ca. 14 cm long with sparse hairs. The broadly ovate glabrous leaf blade is ca. 9-12 × 7-9 cm with a cordate base that has slightly overlapped lobes, a denticulate and ciliate margin, and an acute apex. The upper leaf surface is olive green to maroon, variegated with sage zones along main veins and the lower leaf surface is pale green, variegated with maroon zones. The 4-tepaled light pink flowers are abundant on a ca. 33 cm long light maroon peduncle from August to December.
