B. rostrata 'Hawstrata'
Selected by Hannah-Joy Haw from CA, USA. Applied for on March 28, 2025 and approved on May 21, 2025.
This striking and variegated cultivar was selected out from Begonia rostrata in 2022 and seems to be stable. It's up to ca. 60 cm tall and ca. 11 cm wide when mature. The greenish-white stipules are ca. 10 × 5 mm and the light lime green petiole is ca. 5 cm long. The ovate oblong leaf blade is ca. 4 × 2.5 cm with a truncate to slightly cordate base, a crenate margin, and an acute apex. The upper leaf surface is sparsely hairy and green with silver white spots and blotches to almost silver white between the main veins and the margin. The 4-tepaled pinkish-white flowers are few on a ca. 1.5 cm long, light lime green peduncle in winter. The cultivar should be grown in a terrarium.
