Sub-shrub up to 0.50 to 1 m tall, with succulent, glabrous green stems. Leaves long petiole small, light green, 10-20 cm long, glabrous: oblique limb, deltoid, rope at base, 8-17 x 10-20 cm, 5-palmatilobe, slash on about half of blade, a acute lobes at the top, with denticles; upper side of the limb, green, shiny, glabrous, or sprinkled with spicules scattered; lower side with veins only herisses of more or less dense hairs: 5 main veins and 5-6 secondary veins of each side, all finely marked on the 2 faces. Large stipules lanceolate, acute at the top, 10-14 x 5-6 mm. Axillary inflorescence in bisexual pauciflorous cymes, common peduncle 15-20 mm long, branched once, usually 2 FEMALE flowers developing in the axil of bracts on each side of a MALE flower, greenish-white flowers. MALE flowers with short pedicel, 12-14 mm, glabrous or with some glandular hairs, enlarged at the top; 2 elongated tepals, 10-12 X 6-7 mm, with some scattered glandular hairs. Stamens 12-20, white fillet, small, 1.5 mm long; greenish yellow anther, 2 mm long. FEMALE flowers with a pedicel 4 mm long, with glandular hairs, accrescent to fruiting; 2 suborbicular to oblong tepals, 9 x 7 mm. Elliptical ovary, with dense glandular hairs; styles 3, sod at the base, longs of I mm, bifid at the top; crooked stigma. Fruit bacciform, pendant, elliptic, broadly elliptical, 15-20 X 5-14 mm, glabrous, wingless, but with finely prominent veins, pedicel 10-20 mm long. Seeds oblong, about 0.45 mm long, with a reticulum often punctuated, with long and narrow rectangular meshes. - Pl. 30, p. 99. this species is close to B. oxyloba Welw. ex Hook. f. tropical and equatorial Africa.
