B. ‘Isis’
An admirable variety of the splendid Begonia rex, which we discussed in some detail earlier. It comes from a sowing of seeds of the latter, obtained by Messrs. Rollisson of Tooting, who are today the greatest propagators of this beautiful genus.
The accompanying plate shows how this variety differs from the type. The white area has considerably enlarged, especially at the expense of the central green part, which is here reduced to a sort of irregular nine-pointed star; but in enlarging, it has taken on a metallic, ash-green hue of the most charming effect. The border following the outline of the leaf blade is a bronze green, and it is itself speckled with silver spots. The underside of the leaf, as well as the petiole, is carmine pink.
